Open access operator Grand Central made a breakthrough last week when its first train reached London Kings Cross on a test run from Sunderland. The firm is preparing to launch its services from Sunderland to London, after a series of rolling stock delays.

The arrival of the High Speed Train at Kings Cross is part of a series of trials over sections of the route, which are being undertaken to test the newly refurbished rolling stock and to complete the training of Grand Central staff.
