Train design key in Voyager collision

The rail Accident Investigation Branch report into the fatal collision between a car and a Virgin Voyager diesel train near York has confirmed that the design of the train was a crucial factor in its staying upright after the collision, so preventing any injury to staff or passengers. The obstacle deflector now fitted under the front of all new rolling stock was key in keeping the train in-line.
