SPT ponders variable bus station charges to cut pollution

STRATHCLYDE PARTNERSHIP for Transport has announced that it is looking at introducing variable departure charges at its bus stations that would penalise energy inefficient vehicles.

Eric Stewart, SPT’s director of operations spoke of the plans at a bus seminar in Glasgow in December. Operators have already been surveyed about the make-up of their fleets as part of a first stage to shape its future charging policy.
