1,300 rail carriages by 2014 'over-optimistic'

The Department for Transport's promise of bringing 1,300 new rail carriages into service by 2014 is "over-optimistic", according to a House of Commons report on the DfT's rail franchising policy.

The Department for Transport: Letting Rail Franchises 2005-2007 by the Commons' public accounts committee states that: "There are only 423 carriages on order so far, and another 150 carriages are the subject of negotiations.
