British Parking Awards recognise excellence and achievement

2016 competition entry deadline is 14 December

16 November 2015

The British Parking Awards shine a spotlight on the most imaginative, inspiring and innovative projects, people and ideas in the parking sector. The awards were launched by Parking Review magazine in 2002 with the aim of recognising the best examples of car park management, enforcement, design and teamwork. Since then they have gone on to become the most sought after accolades in the sector, with over 100 enrries being received on average every year.

The deadline for entries to the 2016 awards to the awards is Monday 14 December.

British Parking Awards 2015 categories

The winners are selected by an expert panel and will be revealed at a gala lunch to be held in London on 4 March 2016.

“The British Parking Awards recognise the variety and complexity of experience and operations in the sector,” says Mark Moran, editor of Parking Review, who chairs and coordinated the jury.

“The awards are distinctive in that they encompass the built environment, management practice and technology. Above all else they recognise the work of the many different kinds of people working in parking, be they managers, enforcement officers, customer service staff, planners, engineers, architects, construction specialists, technologists or policy-makers.

“People are the parking sector’s greatest resource, so we recognise team work and individuals, with specific awards for inspiring people, young professionals and, via the BPA Lifetime Achievement Award, those who have devoted their career to making parking better. Improving the quality of the parking experience is a key theme, which has led to the Safer Parking Scheme again endorsing the Exceptional Customer Service Award.”

The competition categories have been enhanced to recognise the changing nature of the services and systems being developed to make parking better. “This year, the Innovation Award has been recast as the Intelligent Parking Award, which gives the jury the ability to recognise not just smarter technology but also smarter thinking,” says Moran.

This year also sees an emphasis on making the built environment of parking attractive and easy to use. “New and renovated car parks will be assessed on their driveability, how easy they are to walk through and how well they integrate with the destinations they serve,” says Moran.

“Entries in the Best New Car Park and Best Refurbishment categories will also be considered for special Architectural Achievement and/or Engineering Excellence trophies. These will recognise specific aesthetic or technical aspects of projects in the competition.”

To qualify the project must have been completed after 1 July 2014 and operational at time of entry to the awards

The awards ceremony culminates with the presentation of the coveted Parking Review Inspiration Award to a person, organisation or project that represents the best in parking design, policy, management or practice.

The winners of the British Parking Awards 2016 will be revealed at a gala lunch on Friday 4 March.
