Bailiffs increasingly being used to chase parking debt, says charity

Money Advice Trust 'Stop the Knock' campaign says 715,000 parking debts pursued

Local councils are increasingly using bailiffs to collect unpaid parking fines and Council Tax arrears. Authorities in England and Wales instructed bailiffs to collect debts on 2.1 million occasions last year, according to research by the Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline. 

The charity’s Stop The Knock research, based on Freedom of Information requests to local authorities, reveals which councils are instructing private bailiffs.
