Two projects that seek to educate parents on how to park in a considerate manner around schools were among the winners of the British Parking Awards 2015.

The South East Parking Group and Kent County Council received a Special Jury Prize for its Safer Parking Project, while Cambridgeshire County Council Road Safety won the Parking in the Community Award. Both initiatives have engaged directly with school children, teachers and parents in a bid to reduce the risk posed by dangerous parking.

Other projects winning trophies included: an events parking company that has raised over £200,000 for a cancer charity; a system for ensuring free parking at supermarkets is used by genuine customers; and on-street parking patrols whose brief is to advise rather than penalise drivers.

The annual competition, launched by Parking Review in 2002, attracted over 100 entries this year. They were drawn from across the public and private sector.

The entries were judged by an independent panel drawn from the parking consultancy, transport and freight sectors. Around 45 entries were short-listed. None of the entrants knew who would win until the announcements were made by Ade Adepitan, the Paralympian athlete and TV presenter, at the Lancaster London Hotel on Friday 6 March.

The gala lunch was attended by over 500 people, with the audience including parking managers, parking attendants, traffic engineers, architects, construction companies, parking adjudicators, rail companies and airport operators.
