Fire appliances blocked by badly parked cars

Firefighters in Sheffield have been prevented from bringing their fire engines to a house fire because of badly parked cars. For example crews from Central and Lowedges stations were called to an address on Buttermere Road, Carterknowle. They found the front room ablaze, with a man in his 50s marooned in the attic bedroom.

The appliance was unable to get closer than 50m (164ft) to the blaze, because of double parked cars. Attempts to use a ladder to rescue the man from the bedroom window were...
