Councils are calling for updated powers to tackle fly-tippers. The Local Government Association (LGA), which represents almost 400 councils in England and Wales, says the system for tackling fly-tippers is unfit for purpose. Local authorities tackle 711,000 fly-tipping incidents a year, which the GLA says costs over £36m.
Councils can currently only take fly-tippers to court. The GLA says this can be expensive, time-consuming and frequently involves lengthy investigations....
