Steven Norris wants to significantly increase the cost of motoring in Britain. Indeed, he envisages a world where, under a future Conservative Government, the cost of motor fuel could well be doubled in a decade, principally by the reintroduction of the fuel duty escalator mechanism introduced by Conservative Chancellor Kenneth Clarke in the 1990s but then abandoned by his New Labour successor Gordon Brown in 2000.
