PTEs, mayors and city-regions could take grip on transport if Labour wins

The governance of transport in England's conurbations and major cities could be dramatically changed if Labour is returned to power on 5 May.

The party's manifesto published this week outlines proposals to give Passenger Transport Executives more powers and to increase the number of directly-elected mayors in Britain's cities, giving them beefed-up powers beyond what the existing elected mayors enjoy.
