Road maintenance contractor Colas is to trial an autonomous vehicle for roadworks.
The vehicle in the trial will be an impact protection vehicle (IPV), which is deployed at the back of activities such as the laying of traffic cones. The vehicles are fitted with flashing signs and large arrows to instruct motorists to change lanes.
Says Colas: “The autonomous IPV has a leader/follower capability that allows it to follow a lead vehicle, unmanned.”
