Cost of new station rises over 50%

The cost of building a new rail station serving Ilkeston in Derbyshire has jumped by more than 50%, councillors  have heard. 

The station was expected to cost just over £6.5m when the DfT awarded Derbyshire £4.5m of New Stations Fund grant in May 2013. At the time, the station, on the Nottingham-Langley Mill line, was expected to open before the end of 2014.
