Edinburgh’s new tram carried 4.92 million passengers in its first year, about 370,000 higher than forecast. Tram services on the nine-mile line between Edinburgh city centre and the airport were launched on 31 May last year. Revenue targets have been surpassed by about 3 percent. Concessionary pass holders are accounting for about 10.9 per cent of users – the city council reimburses Edinburgh Tram, the council-owned company, for these trips.
