The Mayor of London has highlighted that last year was the safest on record for cyclists in the capital with the numbers seriously injured or killed falling by 12% on the year before.
There were in total 432 fewer KSIs in 2014 than in 2013, when cycling KSIs had also fallen, by 27%.
The reduction in KSIs accompanied an annual increase in cycling on TfL main roads by 11% and on all roads by 5%. The Mayor hailed the fact that one journey in every 513,000 now ends in death or serious injury, the lowest rate ever recorded, higher than the previous low of 2006 when it was one journey in every 434,000. Cycling KSIs are 80% down compared to 1989.
Boris Johnson said: "These figures are tremendously encouraging and will, I hope, give even more people the confidence to get on their bikes."
