Is it possible that driverless cars are being very slightly overhyped?

“Automated vehicles will ‘change cities forever’” said a headline in the last issue, summarising a report commissioned by OECD/International Transport Forum. It introduced what seems to me to be an entirely new dimension into the discussion, namely that a universal system of autonomous cars could result in an increase in total car miles driven, due to vehicles moving from one user to the next, and a possible disruptive effect on traditional mass public transport systems....
