The Chancellor, George Osborne, this week promised cities across England more transport powers in return for agreeing to implement directly-elected mayors.
The Queen’s Speech on 27 May will include a City Devolution Bill paving the way for the devolution of powers to Greater Manchester – which has already agreed to install an elected mayor – and to other cities following the same path.
