Transport minister Tom Harris this week announced that motorists will be able to drive on the hard shoulder of the M42 at 60mph rather than 50mph when Active Traffic Management is in operation with immediate effect. The DfT?said it had undertaken a "careful safety study" of increasing the limit. Achieving a 60mph was crucial to the economic justification of hard shoulder running on more of the motorway network, advocated in a DfT?report published earlier this month (LTT 7 Mar)....
