The Local Government Association is seeking contributions from local authorities in England towards the set-up costs of a municipal bonds agency.
The agency would raise finance from the capital markets and on-lend it to local authorities to assist the delivery of transport and other infrastructure. The LGA believes the agency could lend at a rate below that offered by the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB).
