Hopes for direct trains between Ebbw Vale and Newport have been boosted by a new report. The railway to Ebbw Vale opened to passenger services in 2008 but trains run to Cardiff, rather than Newport, even though the line passes the western outskirts of the town. A study conducted by consultant Capita, and reported to councillors in Newport this month, updates an economic appraisal of a Newport service (possibly two-hourly), envisaged to commence in 2020.
