The DfT has designated four Better Bus Areas in which Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) paid to operators for commercial services will gradually be transferred to local authorities.
In addition to seeing BSOG payments cut to zero over a four-and-a-half year period, with the equivalent amount instead paid to the local transport authorities, the councils in each area will receive a top-up grant worth 20% of the BSOG claimed.
