Council scraps HOV lane

One of Britain’s only high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes is to be scrapped.

The City of Bradford Council implemented a ‘two-plus’ lane on the southbound A650 Wakefield Road/Tong Street corridor in 2011 in an effort to ease congestion. The only vehicles allowed to use the lane were those carrying at least two people. 

But Richard Gelder, Bradford’s transport development manager, told councillors that monitoring showed a third of vehicles in the lane were single...
