Today, I stared at the lift for about five seconds. Then I decided to walk up the stairs. “Healthier and saving a bit of energy,” I thought. The same thinking makes me, and lots of other people, walk to work and cycle to the shops. This is a reflection of changes of global proportion. We are living and working longer and must keep fit for the future. We are also developing an environmental “genie” who nags us about wasteful behaviour and polluting our world.
