Halton and Warrington let joint repairs contract

Local transport minister Norman Baker marked the completion of Liverpool’s £65m Edge Lane scheme to create a “safer, more attractive route” into the city centre this week. Baker said it was important “the infrastructure is in place to help rebalance the economy” on his visit to the scheme, which provides a dual carriageway connecting the M62 with the city centre.

Halton And Warrington borough councils are seeking a single contractor to provide reactive maintenance and another to provide programmed works.

The boroughs are inviting expressions of interest by 12 June in the two separate lots for the term maintenance contract for work that they expect to be worth £70m over the full term of the contract of six years.

The preferred approach of the authorities is to appoint a single contractor to both lots to achieve economies of scale. But they will...
