Merseyrail derailment due to track condition

The derailment of a Merseyrail train on the approach to Liverpool Central station on October 26 last year has been blamed on the condition of the track in a report by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.

The RAIB noted that since the derailment occurred, in which nobody was injured but 119 passengers had to be evacuated, Network Rail has completely renewed the track between Liverpool’s Lime Street and Central stations. It has made eight recommendations, one of which to Merseytravel...
