Whether steel wheels or rubber tyres, the power must come from electricity

In reply to Derek Reynolds (Letters LTT 24 May), may I just clarify that my concern in the light of global warming, et cetera, is not whether our local public transport runs on steel rails or rubber-tyres - after all parts of the Paris Metro run on rubber tyres - but rather that it should as far as possible be electrically powered, so that it can at least potentially be powered from renewable sources rather than fossil fuels.

Mr Reynolds may be old enough to recall electrically-powered...
