Parking problems add to booksellers' woes

A lack of affordable and accessible town centre parking is one reason for the rapid decline of bookshops on UK high streets, argues the Booksellers Association.

Membership of the trade body, which represents 95% of book retailers in the UK and Ireland, has fallen steadily over the last six years.

The total number of members, not including supermarket outlets, has fallen by 20% since 2006, while independent bookshop membership has dropped by 25% during the same period.
