Roadside dining is no picnic

A “Right to Picnic” campaign has been launched by the RAC. The motoring body said that drivers are offered “grim, inadequate or non existent” facilities on many UK roads. The RAC asked 4,000 of its members to vote for the worst stretches of road when it comes to picnic and rest areas.

RAC spokesman Erik Nelson said: “Motorists are currently being held to ransom by pricey roadside stops on motorways or grim, narrow lay-by provision on smaller roads.”
