Met’s ‘Operation Reclaim’ leaves £1.3m hole

The Metropolitan Police could have a £1.3m hole in its budget after an initiative to crackdown on uninsured vehicles in the capital failed to meets its revenue targets.

Operation Reclaim began in parts of London in 2005 giving  greater power to the police to remove uninsured vehicles. However, new figures show that police expect to seize 36,000 vehicles by the end of the financial year, 24,000 fewer than projected.

The Met had been expected to collect £3.2m in fines and fees....
