‘Ice-fighting’ measures keep trains running

Pioneering methods to remove ice and compacted snow from trains helped ScotRail to keep its services running.

The use of innovative polytunnels and train ‘skirts’, plus hot water lances and a new biodegradable de-icing spray, resulted in 30% more ScotRail trains being available for use in the second half of December compared to the first half of the month.
