New PTA to be created for Northern Ireland as Translink loses monopoly

New proposals for a major shake-up of the way public transport is provided in Northern Ireland, have been unveiled by the Department for Regional Development. They include allowing private operators to run bus and rail services; a new passenger transport authority, run by local councils, to design bus and rail services; and a change in the way that bus services are funded.
