West Midlands told to embrace traffic restraint

The DfT has told the West Midland conurbation authorities to redraft their new local transport plan to put much more emphasis on measures to manage car use.

"The DfT are of the view that we are not making sufficient use of demand management tools in the short and long term," officers told this week's meeting of the conurbation's planning and transportation sub-committee. The authorities are now looking at how the demand management policies can be strengthened....
