Spot fines for driving offences unfair, says motoring group

The Government’s plans to make careless driving a fixed penalty offence could lead to  drivers being penalised on the basis of “subjective” evidence, a motoring lobby group is warning.

The DfT is currently consulting on plans to allow the police to issue three penalty points and a £90 Fixed Penalty Notice for low level careless driving offences. As an alternative, motorists would be offered the chance to pay to attend a remedial course.
