Croydon digs deep to beat its repairs backlog

The London Borough of Croydon has agreed to inject an extra £22m in capital funds into highway maintenance up to 2016.

The bulk of the funding, £7m for this financial year coming from council reserves, is to improve Croydon’s unclassified roads. The authority considers that sustained investment is needed given a “significant backlog of repairs”.
