Redraw high-speed rail route to serve Heathrow, says Labour

Labour has urged the Government to redraw the London-West Midlands high-speed rail route to serve Heathrow Airport and reduce the impact on the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Shadow transport secretary Maria Eagle said the key rationale for the new line was to increase rail capacity between London and the North. Speed was of less importance, she said, and this allowed the line of route to be redrawn.
