With a bit of imagination, Scots rural rail stations could flourish

It is sad that the Scottish rail industry’s Initial Industry Plan (IIP) takes such a limited view of small railway stations. It points to 22 stations with low footfall and questions their value, without considering their wider context.

Firstly, it should be remarked that the analysis is based on poor data. The ‘footfall’ figures are a year-and-a-half old, and so miss any recent changes, and are only for tickets bought to or from the named stations.  Any use of those...
