We want to make high-speed rail greener – CBT chief

Stephen Plowden’s thoughtful letter is right to highlight the flaws in the business case and the way in which the Government has pursued HS2. We and other environmental groups have been vocal in criticising these, and have come together under the banner of the “Right Lines Charter” to make the case for “doing high-speed rail well”.

But we don’t share Stephen’s blanket dismissal of all high-speed rail – on his argument we should be withdrawing, or...
