Localism “bad for ‘smarter’ travel”


Spending cuts and the Government’s ‘hands-off’ approach to local transport spending in England have prompted major cuts to spending on travel behaviour change measures, according to a report for Sustrans and Friends of the Earth.

Robin Hickman of Halcrow/Oxford University’s Transport Studies Unit and independent consultant Tim Pharoah draw the conclusion after reviewing 27 third local transport plans to see how much local authorities planned to spend on ‘smarter...
