Scrap per passenger incentive say councils

Local Government in England is calling on ministers to scrap plans to replace fuel duty rebate for bus operators with a per passenger subsidy.

The DfT announced plans last December to replace Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) – a fuel duty rebate – with a per passenger payment (LTT 18 Dec 09). The Department said the per passenger payment, which would be administered centrally, would be phased in over the next decade, subject to EU state aid approval.
