I read with interest the comments from Stephen Glaister at the RAC Foundation when launching his organisation’s report on rates of return from public spending on transport.

I have no doubt that the detailed cost:benefit and value for money analysis in the Foundation’s paper comparing the relative benefits of investment in roads to rail and public transport are accurate. As a pro-roads lobby organisation I can also understand why the Foundation is keen to promote investment in roads...
