Hoon advances A11 dualling date despite economic downturn

Drivers in Suffolk and Norfolk could benefit from better, more reliable and safer journeys 18 months earlier than expected, after Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon announced he was bringing forward the planned start date for dualling the A11 Fiveways to Thetford to 2010.

Subject to objections to the scheme and a possible Public Inquiry, the improved A11 could open to traffic in early 2013.

Work on the £127m scheme was originally destined to begin in 2012/13, but Hoon is now satisfied...
