Conservatives have already laid out plans to increase fuel duty, highlights Labour

The Conservatives have laid out plans to raise £4.3bn from the duty on fuel, air passenger duty and alcohol and cigarettes, opponents have highlighted.

The Conservatives this week attacked Labour for refusing to rule out rises in fuel duty. But they have not only offered no such commitment themselves, Chancellor George Osborne's Budget forecasts assumes they will rise, Damian McBride, former Labour communications chief and Treasury official has said.

In a tight General Election, the Conservatives have offered a five-year freeze in rail fares, but the Lib Dems said they had never argued for this in Government and Labour said this was uncosted and therefore not credible.

The parties are preparing to lay out their manifestos over the coming week, immediately before voting by post begins.
