Operators urge early commitment on electrification

Association of Train Operating Companies chief executive Michael Roberts has called for commitment on high speed rail with the go-ahead of electrifying the Great Western and Midland Main Lines.

Following the publication by Network Rail of its proposed electrification strategy, Roberts said: “An electrified Great Western route will transform the train service, with faster, quieter and greener trains serving Wales and the West Country, improving journey times.
