Over 4.9m fines issued by London councils

The number of penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued to drivers in London rose 2% in 2011/12 to 4,931,816, according to figures released  by London Councils.

PCNs are issued by the London boroughs and Transport for London (TfL) for illegal parking, driving in bus lanes and moving traffic contraventions.

Tickets issued for illegal parking rose from 4,022,476 to 4,131,738. There were also increases in bus lane penalties – up from 216,495 to 233,201. The number of moving traffic penalties...
