Could garden centre cure hospital's traffic jams
The NHS hopes to ease parking problems at the new out-of-town Tunbridge Wells hospital at Pembury, Kent, by using land at a nearby garden centre for staff car parking.
The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has applied for planning permission for a four-year extension to the arrangements whereby the garden centre provides 322 parking spaces for the hospital. The trust is still talking to councils about a funding package for bus services to serve the hospital.
