Church metal theft reaches all-time high
Metal theft from churches reached its highest level on record last year, according to figures from the church insurers Ecclesiastical. It said that more than 2,500 claims were made in 2011 surpassing the previous worst figure of more than 2,400 in 2008.
The diocese of Chelmsford made over 90 claims to the insurers for metal theft in 2011. The dioceses of Lincoln and Lichfield were the second and third worst affected, both with over 80 claims.
