Clampers jailed for 'blackmailing' drivers

Three car clampers have been jailed for blackmail and demanding money with menaces. The men, operating as A1 Clampers, are believed to have made £350,000 over a three year period between 2005 and 2008.

They were licensed and contracted to clamp cars parked on private property, and operated in uniform. However, a judge at Tauton Crown Court decided that their activities went far beyond what is lawful. The men charged drivers hundreds of pounds to release vehicles. Many had only been left...
