£400m promised to promote uptake of electric and vehicle

Ministers have outlined plans to encourage motorists to switch to electric and hybrid-powered vehicles.

The government launched car grants on the 3 January. Called the Plug-In Car Grant, as part of the Plugged-In Places Scheme, the subsidy reduces the cost of eligible vehicles by around a quarter, up to a maximum of £5,000.

The government is also urging councils to promote electric vehicle charging points in new developments. Ministers have announced that charging points will be built...
