More councils apply for London street permit scheme

Six more boroughs are seeking to join the London Permit Scheme (LoPS) to manage roadworks.
Richmond, Greenwich, Harrow, Newham, Southwark, Waltham Forest are seeking permission from the Transport Secretary Philip Hammond to adopt LoPS. The scheme is designed to bring greater control and closer working with utility companies. It would require electricity, gas, water, and telecoms firms to apply, receive approval and pay for every set of road works they wanted to carry out before any digging...
