The French capital has a world-leading transport system. The responsibility for policy and operations are split between public authority STIF and RATP.

The Paris public transport system is famously comprehensive and increasingly multi-modal. The core metro system is being automated and has been supplemented by tramways, bike hire and, most recently the autolib electric car hire. Other projects include upgrading of bus stop facilities

The French Capital is something of an exception to the organisational arrangements which apply to passenger transport delivery in the rest of the country.
